With limited transport options available to the most vulnerable in our community, Mashamshire Community Office has funded and launched our Mashamshire Community Transport Volunteer Drivers Scheme.

The scheme gets people to vital appointments with the help of volunteer drivers using their own vehicle.  All you need to do is become a member!

How the Scheme Works

• Membership of the scheme is free but an admin fee of £2 per booking is levied by MCO for admin.
• Petrol expenses are paid direct to the volunteer driver based on 55p per mile from 1 July 26 (in line with latest HMRC guidelines)
• MCO is able to claim a fee of £3.18 per trip from NYC, but for health related trips only.
• MCO is unable to claim additional funding for other non-health trips e.g. to day care, community groups or shopping.  These are vital to people’s wellbeing so we still endeavour to help if we can.

Become a Volunteer Driver!

The demand for journeys is already high and expected to grow further.  We will need more confident driver willing to give their drivers to help others.  If you have time to help with one or two journeys a week, we’d love to hear from you.

Future Funding

Setting up this service has not been funded externally.  All investment in staff time and systems has been from MCO reserves and volunteer help.  The income outlined above covers only a fraction of the cost of running the service. It will run at a loss which is not sustainable without additional donations and support.
