Give Your Time to Volunteer

The Mashamshire Community office support volunteers ensure the wellbeing walks are accessible and safe for everyone

Give your time to support our small small team of 3.5 full time equivalent paid staff – you’ll be enabling us to do more for Mashamshire!  Your time helps provide more help, it enables us to keep our running costs as low as possible, and helps us raise vital funds to support ourselves.

At the same time, volunteering is a positive move and keeps you connected with what’s going on.  Our volunteers tell us that they give their time because they can see how our services are really making a difference to our community.

We know that not everyone has time to give on a regular basis. But if you have skills to share, ad hoc help is always useful too – anything from helping at events to marketing, copywriting, proof reading or posting on social media. Help can come in smaller packages and still make a big difference!

Here are a selection of our regular volunteer roles to give you an idea…

Local Volunteer Driver Scheme

Our new volunteer driver scheme launched in April and is growing from strength to strength. We already have 50+ members signed up and have completed many journeys thanks to our volunteer drivers.  This service is not free but reasonable charges apply, making essential travel more accessible across our rural community.

If a local resident is in need of transport for a pre-booked health appointment and they are unable to arrange travel to attend, our new volunteer driver scheme could help.

With limited transport options available to the most vulnerable in our community, MCO are seeking volunteer drivers to join us in an exciting new venture.

Volunteer drivers provide a vital door-to-door service for people who need help to access appointments related to their health and well-being. Why not volunteer as a driver and help support our local community?

Volunteer Minibus Drivers

Community trips set off from Masham Community Office monthly using volunteer drivers and Heck bus

If you have time and enjoy driving, we’re looking for drivers for our new schedule of community social outings and trips, using the Heck Community Bus.

We’ve put together a plan of interesting outings that will enable members of our rural community to get out and about – shopping visits, seaside trips and interesting visitor destinations.  If these trips prove popular, then we may look to extend them and we’ll be needing to know who can help support and develop this new service.

Volunteer as a walk leader and we’ll provide training to enable you to guide and support our community Wellbeing Walks.

We currently offer short and slightly more challenging walks around Masham and the local area.  You could help develop new routes, or perhaps even devise new walking routes that we can convert into maps to sell to visitors and support our fundraising.

We are currently exploring ‘Visitor Guided Walks’ for Summer 2025 – so if you would like to be involved in sharing our fantastic scenery and history with those visitors this summer – then get in touch.

Digital Support Volunteer

Digital Champions At Masham Community Office

Join the team as a digital support volunteer and help people with digital challenges to overcome their problems.  Whether it’s help to get online, stay safe or stay connected, many people in our community feel out of their depth and you might be able to help.

You need to listen to work out people’s issues and be able to clearly explain what they need to know.  If you are already confident with using apps, tablets, phones, the internet and computers generally, that’s great, but additional training is available.

Our team of volunteers run regular drop-in sessions at various locations to champion the use of technology to make people’s lives easier.

Ideally these roles require a couple of hours a week but could be more ad hoc, according to what fits with you.
