National Volunteers’ Week was a fantastic success at MCO and whilst the weather was wet on the Wednesday for our market stall, it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits. The week provided a wonderful opportunity to get out into the community, meet new people and showcase the work we do across Masham and the surrounding area.
Our market stall gave us a chance to highlight some of the projects we support, including our newly launched Community Transport Service. Visitors were also able to browse our brand-new range of merchandise, featuring cards, crafts, gifts, games, kitchenware and books. The team created a fantastic display and it was great to share our work with some local residents and visitors.
The celebrations continued on Thursday evening with a Volunteers’ Social at Masham Town Hall. Volunteers came together to enjoy drinks, nibbles, a pub quiz, raffle prizes and a special star prize draw. It was a wonderful opportunity to relax, have some fun and socialise outside of our usual MCO activities.
As we receive no dedicated funding for events such as these, we are incredibly grateful for the generosity and support of local businesses and organisations that helped make the evening possible. Our sincere thanks go to Masham Town Hall, Theakston Brewery, Black Sheep Brewery and everyone who donated prizes, including Joneva, Bah Humbugs, Corks & Cases, Mallard Grange Farm, Masham Golf Club and Swinton Park for their generous star prize donation.
Throughout the week, some of our fantastic volunteers also stepped outside their comfort zones and in front of the camera to help create a series of short social media reels. These videos were shared across our channels and collectively received more than 4,000 views!! They provided a brilliant insight into what volunteering means, not only the positive impact it has on our local community, but also the benefits it brings to the wellbeing, confidence, and social connections of those who give their time to support others.
If you missed them, you can still watch the videos, along with some entertaining outtakes, by clicking here.
