On Tuesday 19 May, Escape to the Country (Episode 27) featured Sarah and her son Christian as they explored the possibility of relocating from North Ferriby in East Yorkshire to North Yorkshire.
During the episode, the pair visited Masham to discover everything our vibrant market town has to offer.
Viewers were first introduced to local resident Ian, better known as the “Born & Bred Yorkshireman” who shared his thoughts on life in the Yorkshire Dales. They also met Richard from Beavers Butchers, who spoke about Masham’s annual Sheep Fair, and Lucy from Bordar House Teas, who highlighted two essentials for any visitor: a proper cup of Yorkshire tea and a bacon butty.
Sarah and Christian also spent time with Julie and Jude from the Mashamshire Community Office, learning more about the benefits of volunteering and the importance of community support in rural areas. They discussed how the Community Office provides vital local services that may not always be easily accessible outside of city life.
The conversation also touched on the wide range of social and walking groups available in the area, helping residents stay connected, active, and supported while combating social isolation.
The episode will be available to watch on BBC Iplayer for 11 months – Click here
