Masham Church of England Primary School is proud to announce the official opening of its newly refurbished library, a vibrant and inspiring space designed to foster a lifelong love of reading among pupils.
Launched during the National Year of Reading, the transformed library provides a rich, engaging environment where children can explore books, spark their imagination, and deepen their enthusiasm for learning. The project reflects the school’s strong commitment to nurturing curiosity and ensuring that every child has access to high-quality educational resources.
The development was made possible through close collaboration with Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust, whose support in securing grant funding played a vital role in bringing the project to life. This partnership highlights a shared ambition to create exceptional opportunities for children within the community.
The opening was marked by a special visit from author Douglas Adamson, who introduced pupils to his new children’s book, Rubbish: The Little Dog That Became A Street Cleaner. His presence helped bring reading to life for students and added an extra layer of excitement to the celebration.
Parents, families, governors, and members of the wider community also attended the event, underscoring the importance of reading and the central role the school plays within the local area.

It has been a real privilege to welcome author Douglas Adamson into school to share his new children’s book, Rubbish: The Little Dog That Became A Street Cleaner, and to officially open our library. His visit has helped to bring reading to life for our pupils and has been a truly inspiring experience for everyone involved. We were also delighted to welcome parents, families, governors and members of the wider community to celebrate this special occasion with us, reinforcing the important role that reading and our school play at the heart of our community.”
One parent said,
“It’s lovely to see the space, they’ve so carefully developed it and really thought about what needs to be here – I think it’s brilliant.”
Higher Level Teaching Assistant Mrs Tattersall reflected,
“It means the world to the children to be able to have a space for some quiet time and get hooked into a book”.
Author Douglas Adamson found the visit uplifting and commented,
“the power of words takes you through your life and this library is absolutely marvellous.”
