Community spaces across York and North Yorkshire are set to benefit from a new £1.35 million fund aimed at improving local hubs such as village halls, cricket grounds, and other shared spaces.
The 2025/26 Community Buildings Programme will be delivered in partnership with North Yorkshire Council and City of York Council, funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF).
Building on the success of previous programmes, which supported 43 venues in 2024, Mayor David Skaith has committed an additional £600,000 from his Mayoral Investment Fund to back more than 20 new projects.
“These buildings are more than just spaces,” said Mayor Skaith. “They’re where communities connect, support one another, and thrive.”
The grants will focus on improving accessibility and promoting physical and mental wellbeing. Organisations including village halls, community centres and local councils can apply for funding until 4th August: https://yorknorthyorks-ca.gov.uk/project/community-buildings-programme/
Last year’s funded projects included Danby Wiske Village Hall (Northallerton), Snape Institute (Bedale), and Studley Royal Cricket Club (Ripon), with improvements ranging from accessibility upgrades to energy-efficient installations.
