Gaia Earth Sculpture on Display in Harrogate
Fri 4 July 2025 - Sat 12 July 2025
All Day
St Wilfrid's Church, Harrogate
The Gaia Earth sculpture, a glowing model of Earth created by artist Luke Jerram using NASA satellite imagery, will be displayed at St Wilfrid’s Church in Harrogate from 4th–12th July 2025.
The display will feature as part of Harrogate Music Festival, accompanied by immersive soundscapes by BAFTA-winning composer Dan Jones. There will also be special gigs and quiet viewing sessions too.
The artwork provides the opportunity to see our planet, floating in three dimensions. The installation aims to create a sense of the Overview Effect, which was first described by author Frank White in 1987. One common feature of the experience for astronauts is a feeling of awe for the planet: Watch this great film about the phenomenon.
