Disability Access

Disability access issues are key to improving the lives and experience of people with disabilities or mobility issues. Mashamshire Community Hub seeks to improve access and raise awareness of the issues effecting people in Masham.
We are working with Masham Parish Council and Ripon Disability Forum to identify ways that improvements can be made.
We can also help signpost to expert advice on additional financial support from disability benefits, to grants or attendance allowance. Just call and and we can arrange an advice session with Citizens Advice.
If you need to buy a Radar key for access to disabled toilets, we stock them too.
Blue badges can be a big help for people with severe mobility problems by allowing them to park close to their destination. See more below:
Blue Badge Parking Permits
Blue Badges are very useful if your mobility prevents you from getting out because you can’t park close enough. However, there are eligibility criteria to be met in order to qualify.
If you are eligible it costs £10 for a blue badge, including replacements and renewals. But if your application is unsuccessful your payment will be refunded.
Find out about the eligibility criteria and evidence you will need on the North Yorkshire Council website via the link below. If you need help working through the information, call in and we can help. If you are eligible, you can also apply online. This is a quick and easy process and gives you an instant decision in most cases. You can upload your evidence and make payment all in one place. If you are not confident applying online and uploading information you can drop into the Mashamshire Community Hub and we will help you make the application online or arrange a time to do it with you. For online renewals, you should re-apply 30 days before your current badge expires.

Ripon Disability Forum’s aim is to work with local authorities, health services, businesses, charities, and community groups to improve the lives of people with disabilities, their carers, and families. They want to make sure that people with disabilities have the support and services they need to live a good life.
They are working with us and Masham Parish Council to improve accessibility for Masham. Wheelchair friendly curbs and footpaths are basic requirements but often prove to be a barrier. Respectful parking is also vital so that if an accessible curb is there, it isn’t rendered pointless by careless drivers, so signage is important too.
